Physically & Spiritually it Binds all to Eternal Death - I was reading a posting by Stephen at ChristWeb, a daily read for me, and he touched on some thoughts I've been grappling with over several months now as I've been watching the crest build over the sin of homosexuality.
So Stephen got me thinking some more on the subject and then Marty, another daily blog check for me at Vigilance Matters, posted a comment that also got the neurons firing. So I of course posted a comment in response, one that I think is worth posting here as well.
Here is the first part of Stephen's post which I suggest everyone swing by and read in entirety along with the comments. Following the snippet is my comment:
Recent articles regarding homosexual marriage got my mind to working on homosexuality and the belief that it is a genetic trait. Here are some of my thoughts on the matter. While I am by no means a geneticist, the theory of how genes are transmitted through generations are rather basic.
Whether you believe in creation or evolution the fact remains that there are two sexes in the species, male and female. These two sexes are required in order to propagate the species. Looking throughout nature you see that animals prosper due to the strengths that are preserved when two of the same species mate. Those traits that are dominant are reinforced and those traits that are recessive are minimized. Through the repetition of this mating of two strong members of a species, the entire species grows stronger and prospers.
Thanks Stephen for your thoughts. They mirror my own of late. As do your's Marty.
I think it really comes down to one trait being passed on: the trait of Sin.
It's become euphemistically watered down today and even avidly promoted in various forms, but sin is anti-God. When it entered the world it so changed a man and a woman that sickness, pain, and death not only warped what God had made in them physically and spiritually, but it also mutated all of the creation over which they had been given dominion. And so disease, death, and unrighteousness where given birth in Man and passed from one generation to the next.
That includes the sin of homosexuality. So, when people argue that they are born that way and thus God must sanction it since He created them, they are sadly wrong. Since the fall of Adam, all creation is born infected with Sin and it is because of this anti-God infection that all of creation is doomed to the furnace of Hell. It is only because of God's patience and Love for His creations that God has sought a means to remove Sin.
This is why Christ came to earth, to accomplish what Adam failed to do. And through Christ, and only through Christ, can we die to the sin of this world which binds hopelessness and misery unto our souls in eternal death.
Death and Rebirth as a new creation is how God solved the problem of Sin.
It is because of Christ Jesus, who spent His all by dying in our stead with our sins upon His head, that we can be reborn through the power of His shed blood so that we can know and experience true freedom.
All sin, whether it be the sin of homosexuality, the sin of alcoholism, or the sin of pride can be overcome, but it takes acceptance of what Christ did, of His blood, and of who He truly is, for liberty to be gained.
Until we make that choice, we remain slaves to sin.
