Or: Dead Church Walking - The abomination that causes desolation may very well be the raising of the sin of homosexuality to glorification in the Church today.
The Church is teetering on the edge of oblivion across America and indeed across the Western World because it is schizophrenic. Leaders, ministers, and lay persons alike are attempting to live in two worlds. Christ warned against this when he proclaimed that we cannot possibly serve two masters and please God.
Why? Because we become double minded. That is where much of the Church in America stands today, pulled between two sides of the fence and ready to be ridden out of town on the rail between it's legs. Don't be surprised if the Church isn't tarred and feathered on the way out of town.
The Holy Spirit writes through James that a double minded person is worse than flotsam cast about upon the ocean, but is instead like a wave driven here and there by wind crashing into other waves and mingling with other waters to be raised and then tossed about without direction or care:
“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man [is] unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:6-8 AV)
Ultimately that wave will be crashed upon the rock that does not move or ware away - Jesus the Christ.
Consider the news today out of Bothell, Washington, where the United Methodist Church is set to try one of its ministers for openly engaging in the sin of homosexuality and remove her as a pastor. Karen Dammann recently, against the law, married her partner in sin, Meredith Savage (is the irony of those names lost on anyone? Savage Dammann).
The Associated Press today writes:
"Dammann, 47, is charged with "practices declared by the United Methodist Church to be incompatible to Christian teachings." Church law prohibits ordination of self-avowed, practicing homosexuals, although the church's social principles support rights and liberties for homosexuals."
Can you pick out the double mindedness of these believers? It shouldn't be that hard.
They prohibit the ordination of a person practicing the sin of homosexuality but turn right around and declare that they support the rights and liberties of such a person in their body's social environment.
The lawyer for Dammann calls the Methodist leaders hypocritical. The lawyer is right.
Either you stand with God or you stand with the world. You can't stand with both because the world is in opposition to God despite the fact that He sent Christ to die for all of creation.
Church leaders haven't just abrogated righteousness and truth in regards to the sin of homosexuality. No-fault Divorce and abortion are other worldly practices that the Church embraced years ago. It is very likely one of the key reasons we face the hypocritical dilemma of same-sex marriage today.
In the early 1970's, two major events pushed us over the edge of the slippery slope: abortion-rights, and no-fault divorce. Those two events more than any other have solidified an unprecedented idea in the American psyche: the idea that the happiness of an adult is MORE important than the well-being of a child. Once we put our own selfish desires above the needs of our own children, society was lost.
The Bible says "Love they neighbor as thyself". Neighbor? Heck, we can't even love our own kids that much!
For proof of the Church's lack of love for children today look no further than the Catholic church and how it handled the pedophile priests who would be better off at the bottom of a lake with a millstone at the end of a rope than to be shuttled secretly around from parish to parish spreading their damnation.
It's not too late for the Bride of Christ, though she be dead. After all, her Betrothed is in the practice of raising the dead to life, but the bride must put off her double mindedness and be clothed in the white garments bought for her by Christ. The Church today must repent, declare the sin committed in hypocrisy, and "Wake Up!"
Turn from the path where you embrace the values and standards of the world, that change like the tide, and embrace the One who is Forever. Strengthen what remains or what remains will be lost.
So choose this day whom you will serve, the Living God or your own selfish fleshly and fallen desires.
As for me and my family, we will serve the Living God, the Lord of Hosts, the Amen.
