They hate you because of me - The Christian Rock band Pawn, was supposed to play at an anti-drug gathering at the Rossford High School. Two of the rock band members are students of the school and the manager of the band, David Keeberger, is also a member of the school board.
But because the songs the band plays include references to Christ and God the Rossford Superintendent Luci Gernot announced that they were cancelling the band appearance because they would rather avoid the controversy that might be generated by non-Christians.
Ignazio Messina reports for the Toledo Blade:
The school district's law firm, Whalen & Compton of Akron told school officials yesterday that it "wasn't appropriate" to let the band Pawn perform at the school, Ms. Gernot said.
Messina goes onto report an interesting fact:
[It] was a 1936[,] Rossford High School graduate, atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair, then known as Madalyn Mays, whose lawsuit against Baltimore public schools led to the 1963[,] Supreme Court ruling outlawing prayer in schools.
Hmm... Generational sins.
