Don't expect much. - Well I'm forced to type one handed.
So don't expect a lot out of me over the coming week.
I cut my left index finger at its base rather seriously. To the tune of six stitches. It's amazing what's under those few layers of skin; not to mention how much bright red blood flows beneath.
I started my day doing some yard work for some friends. They are an elderly couple with some health problems. Just before I was about to quit, I started trimming and shaping a bush with a tool that basically looks like a real long bread knife with a long wooden handle. And yes it's razor sharp.
I was going well and just had the top to finish when in the blink of an eye at the end of one swing the blade jumped from my hand and into the air. I'm not real certain what happened next. I remember it hitting me in the neck on the left. I guess I raised my left hand to protect my self and I caught the blade.
Praise God I didn't get cut in the neck.
I called my pop and he drove me to a walk in clinic where they fixed me up. The nurse practitioner did the sowing. In between stitches she reminisced about the farming life with my dad.
So there I am, lying on this table too narrow for my bulk, bleeding upon the surgical cloth sharing the table with me, and in between each thrust of the needle and thread I'm listening to this nurse and my pop talk about how back on the farm they would have just sown me up with whatever was available and put me back to work within hours. Oh, and fresh corn was so much better compared to store bought stuff today - to which I wholeheartedly agreed.
About midway through stitch three I could feel my empty stomach perk up at the stories of fresh vegetables, fried chicken pecking at corn hours earlier, and sweet well water you pumped yourself.
Of course when I stopped leaking and went to pay my bill I found myself wishing I had gone to a farm to get sowed up.
I must say everyone at the clinic was immensely nice, professional but fun, and much faster than an emergency room.
I go back on Wednesday for a check-up.
