Leave It To Chance published by David C. Cook is the story of a divorced mother, Sierra Montgomery, who has three children, all of whom have a problem resulting from the divorce. Unemployment and failure to get child support payments sets the stage for Sierra to have to give up her home and move back with her mother. Her mother's overbearing love causes issues for Sierra. To top off family problems Sierra inherits an old gelding named Chance.
A childhood experience left Sierra terrified of horses so she immediately decides that selling Chance will provide much needed income. However, her children want to keep Chance. Eventual renting of boarding space from a handsome landscaper, Ross Morgan, and moving to her mother's home sets up Sierra for a series of events which run the gamit from humorous to serious.
I enjoyed reading this novel by Sherri Sand. I found Sierra's attitudes and reactions to things believable. I most enjoyed her two minor characters, Sierra's best friend, Elise, and Ross' friend, Sid. Her mother's character would make for good discussion starters on subjects relating to loving adult children and helping them.
Another discussion took place in my mind as the living out of the faiths held by Sierra's mom and Elise developed.
I don't know anything about horses but I wondered if Sand's treatment of Chance's care wasn't a little careless at times.
Sherri made the oldest son, Braden, very real as she developed the attitudes and reactions a pre-teen might go through as he faces life as the son of divorced parents.
