Bible Study: James 2.

Seeking as for hidden treasure. - Here's the adult Bible study for chapter two of James I put together for my church group.

Here are the questions asked.

1. Read James 2 and write down any questions or insights that you have.
2. What is favoritism? Verses 1-4. See Jude 16, too.
3. Why does James speak of favoritism as being a sin?
4. Why/How is it that when we break one of the laws we break all of them? Verse 5-11.
5. What is "mercy?" Why should we make a practice of it? Verses 12-13.
6. James makes several negative and positive comparisons concerning faith and deeds. Can you list them? Verses 14-26. Negative comparisons. Positive comparisons.
7. How does the instruction on faith and deeds/works relate to the first half of this chapter? Verses 14-26.
8. Why is faith by itself dead with out works? Verse 17.
9. If faith by itself without works is dead, is works by itself without faith dead?
10. Out of what type of attitude should our deeds/works come in relation to our faith?

Bible Study: James 1.

Studying His Word. - It's been a long while since I posted a Bible study. The reason is we've been doing a DVD seminar so I've not had to prepare any Bible studies. But tonight we're back to a normal Bible study schedule. We're studying James.

1. Read James chapter 1. Write down any questions that you have.
2. To whom was this letter initially written? Verse 1.
3. Why are we commended to count the many "trials/temptations" that assail us a joy? Verses 2-4.
4. Can you think of examples of this in your own life?
5. In your words what is the message of verses 5-8?
6. Are the temptations written of in verses 13-15 the same as those mentioned in verse 2?
7. What stands out most to you about our heavenly Father in verses 16-18?
8. Why is it that man's anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires? Verse 19-27?
9. Why is it important to keep a tight rein on one's tongue? Verse 26-27. See also Matt 15:11.
10. What is impressed upon you the most from this chapter?

But we started a new series last night and here are the questions for the first two chapters of Jonah.

These questions like the others I've offered, I feel are best suited for group study, though most definitely, the Lord will bless them as a single study too.

Seeking as for hidden treasure. - Well, it took me long enough to get them all done and posted here to The Great Separation, but that's because I was writing them as they were needed for our adult Bible study group in my church.

At the time of this posting we still have the last three questions to cover in the Chapter 20 study. Last night was a very good meeting I thought. We were challenged to think about our walk in Christ.

5. What lesson(s) is Christ teaching the disciples and us in that He already had a fire going and fish cooking but still asked that they bring fish to the fire? Verses 9-12.
6. Why do you think John is exact on the facts about the fish caught? Verse 11.
7. Who or what are "these" that Christ is referring to in verse 15.
8. Why does Christ ask Peter three times if Peter loves Him? Verses 15-19.
9. What kind of death was Christ telling Peter he would suffer? Verses 18-19.
10. Why do you think that Peter asked about John in verses 20-21? What is Christ's answer? 22.

Free Bible Study, Book of Ephesians.

Seeking as for hidden treasure. - Here is a set of Bible studies I put together some time ago on Ephesians for our small adult Bible study group at my Church.

These questions are written with the purpose of getting discussion going. This sometimes means the leader needs to sit back, keep his/her mouth shut, listen, and ask probing questions.

Don't feel that you need to get through one chapter every meeting. In our group we sometimes spend two meetings getting through one chapter, because of extra questions and testimonies.

5. Who is the other disciple who follows Jesus to Annas's courtyard? Verse15.
6. Is it strange that Peter would attack with sword the men coming to get Jesus and then turn around and deny that he knew Christ hours later? What does this tell us about him?
7. What is Jesus telling the high priest in verses 20 and 21?
8. When Christ is struck, how does He react? Verses 22, 23. Compare this to a similar incident that happened to Paul in Acts 23: 1-7.
9. Why do you think it is included in this Gospel recording that the last person to challenge Peter was a relative of the man whom he injured in the Garden? Verses 25-27.
10. In comparison to what they are doing to Christ, what does verse 28 tell us about the condition of the hearts of the Jews and their leaders?
11. Why did the Jewish leaders take Jesus to see Pilate? Verses 30-32.
12. When Pilate asked Jesus if He was the King of the Jews, why did Christ ask, "Is that your own idea or did others talk to you about me?" Verses 33,35.
13. Why couldn't Christ's kingdom be of this world? Verse 36.
14. What is Christ saying to Pilot in verse 37? What is Pilate's answer in verse 38?
15. Why would Pilate call Christ 'the king of the Jews' when asking the Jews if they wanted him to release Christ? How do you think calling Christ, 'the king of the Jews,' would affect their answer to Pilate? Verse 39.
