Sticking it to the... - And, yes... I was making coffee while I but this together on the fridge.

I love my Bodum French Press coffee maker and my poetry magnets.

 

 

I'm on the wrong planet for that.

Quickie Poetry

Uncapped delights for assembled saints
... Savory vanilla, sugar, and flour combined.
Gaiety and gab precipitates approval and -

"Haha! He's trying to find a mate."

... He's in the wrong church for that.
Laughter and twinkles
... Fading to revelation - yin minus yang.

Throat clearing and eyes askance.

Cake crumbles and satisfies buds in bliss
... awash in cow's nectar. Class launches.
Now and then I ruminate -

I'm on the wrong planet for that.

God's Miracles | God's Provision.

Lord, there are times when Your mercy and grace are so hard to fathom. - Sometimes one just has to stand back and go, "Wow. Did God just do what I think He did?"

For, I'm not exactly sure how long it's been now, several years I think, we've been praying at church for a friend who's had a difficulty in conceiving and keeping her child once conceived.

Medical doctors discovered that she had several conditions which made carrying a child difficult for both she and the child. Difficult but not insurmountable, thank the Lord.

Less than nine months ago she and her husband conceived again and so all this time we've been in constant prayer.

She was scheduled for a C-section tomorrow, almost three weeks before the due date. The date of the scheduled C-section is important because it was a requisite that she be off some blood thinner medication for a couple of days before the surgery. The medicine was something she was required to take while pregnant.

Yesterday, not twenty-four hours after her last dosage of medicine, she was in a car accident.

She was rear-ended. It was a mild fender bender and she was uninjured. Again, praise the Lord!

But her doctor wanted her to go in and be checked out.

At the hospital they found out that she was three centimeters dilated and having contractions, a fact she was unaware of, something I guess happens to some women. So immediate surgery was necessary and Isaiah was brought forth into this world, healthy and beautiful on April 2, 2007.

Praise the Father for His faithfulness and miracles.

Others I've talked to felt, like me, that the minor car accident was one of those circumstances that God uses to work His will. Otherwise things might have gotten past the point of danger for mother and child.

Several months ago my church had a special baby shower for her where the men and women who had been praying came together to celebrate God's grace in this pregnancy.

I wanted to write a poem for Isaiah and his dad and mom so the Lord gave me the following poem. I presented it to them at the baby shower.

It's all the more amazing to me when I realize that Isaiah and I now share the same birthday!

It took a number of moments for me to realize it and frankly I'm still a bit stunned. I must admit that this birthday has been a difficult one for me. But now, at this moment all I can manage is a, "Wow.... God, did you just wink at me?"

I know it's late. I actually had this one for last week but somehow overlooked posting it. Which turns out to be a good thing. I didn't like what I had and so ended up changing a few words this morning.

Talent Show Last Friday: Solid, Man. Solid.

Who says Christians don't have fun?! - Last Friday night was the fifth annual Talent Show at my church. It was a blast! The theme was a high class night club atmosphere. Though one might argue there's nothing high class about us.

We had lip-sinkers, a clown, comedy acts, singers, photographic artists, and me.

Last year, I surprised everyone by walking in and doing a short skit as Strong Sad (character from Homestar Runner).

I think some expected a reprisal of that role. Which is why I didn't put the face paint back on.

No this year I settled on reciting some of my poems.

I did surprise them though with the last poem I did in beatnik fashion. I dawned a cool hat, sun glasses, and some beads. Then I broke into Solid, man. Solid, with a bongo drum I really can't play. Wish I had a recording for you. You'll have to settle for this picture and the poem which really pokes fun at us all.

I should note that going along with the night club theme Phil, who organizes and MC's the event, decided that a surprise twist of entertainment would be a slight Maffia lean. So in his best God Father accent he introduced himself as Phil "the Mouth," myself as Hal "the Hop," the club bouncer, and our friend Jim as Jimmy "the Squeak." Jimmy was the drink server, aka "bartender."

Don't faint. The strongest thing we had was Draft Root Beer.

I won't bother explaining to you how we got our names, leave it to say we've had them for some time.

We Have a Winner in the Free Book Challenge!

(Trumpets Trilling) - Well, well, well. I am sending out two books to Joe in Michigan. Actually they are going to his wife. As a loving husband, he undertook the challenge and mined deeply the nebulous Internet for the correct answer to my first free book challenge, so that he could get these books for his wife.

And believe me he spent some time digging. Frankly I'm surprised he found the answer on the net. I couldn't. I came close in doing the online research before posting the question. I only new the answer because of my 1895, Student Cambridge Edition of Browning's Complete Poems.

Oh, oh, yeah. I guess you want to know the answer.

Well, the challenge was to name the Poet, poem, and the way the poet signed the poem when it was originally published from this line:

And all night long we have not stirred,
And yet God has not said a word!

Here's Joe's correct answer:

Robert Browning
Signed as "Z"

First published as "Porphyria" in the Monthly Repository for January 1836

Notice he went the extra mile and showed off by giving the publication and year.

How I came upon this interesting poem is a bit of a story.

It so distracted me that I accidently walked into the ladies bathroom one morning on my way to my college class where we were going to be discussing the poem.

Thankfully the bathroom was unoccupied.

Regrettably, once realization dawned at the absence of urinals, in my hasty retreat one of my fellow female students from the class met me exiting the bathroom.

An embarrassing and awkward moment.

The poem, is in part, inspiration for the suspense/thriller I'm working on tentatively titled, Sins of Our Fathers.

It is key in the book.
