Dozens of nations dominated by Islam are pressing the United Nations to adopt an anti-"defamation" plan that would make Christians criminals under international law, according to a United States organization that has launched a campaign to defend freedom of religion worldwide.

Iranians consider mandatory execution for apostasy:

A plan is being discussed by lawmakers in Iran that would require the death penalty for anyone who leaves Islam for Christianity or someone who promotes such a conversion even on the Internet, according to a new report from Compass Direct News.

UN Scandals Continue Across the Globe.

Quicky - There is an editorial from a Kenyan website called The Standard that I think is worth reading.

It's titled, UN must first remove the speck in its eye.

The writer catalogues a number of the United Nations's failures from their Oil for Food, troops raping and pillaging, and exchanging arms for gold with the people they are supposed to disarm.

Here's a good quote:

The irony of the shepherd devouring the lamb prompted Gita Sahgal of Amnesty International to remark: "The issue with the UN is that peacekeeping operations unfortunately seem to be doing the same thing that other militaries do."

UN Says it Can't Feed the World.

Translation: Give Us More Money. - The pursuit of different fuel sources is apparently putting the squeeze upon the United Nations's World Food Program.

Javier Blas and Jenny Wiggins report for the Financial Times: UN warns it cannot afford to feed the world:

Rising prices for food have led the United Nations programme fighting famine in Africa and other regions to warn that it can no longer afford to feed the 90m people it has helped for each of the past five years on its budget.

One of the factors that is raising the price of food has something to do with the pursuit of biofuels.

So in one way, world leaders have created a food shortage by claiming we have to get away from using fossil fuels and pursue other fuel sources.

Of course, the solution would be to spend money and teach the world to farm instead of just handing them food. I know that's probably oversimplifying the dynamics of international politics, but it seems to me that all these food give-aways only encourages the criminal leaders of some of Africa's countries to further oppress their people and extort countries that care about the world's starving.

UN Secretary General Places Blame of Genocide in Darfur on Climate!

Be afraid. Be very afraid. - This should be laughable. In fact, it would be wonderful if someone would just laugh in Ban Ki-moon's face.

Climate change behind Darfur killing: UN's Ban.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon, in an article published Saturday.

Talk about the epitome of transference and me-ism. Placing the blame in part for genocide on the climate and not those who did the murdering.

The UN's noodle must be cooked from the top down.

U.N. Tells Italy that Immigrant Women have a Right to Prostitution.

The world's pimp. - I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Throw the United Nations out with the rest of the trash.

LifeSiteNews is reporting that the United Nations has told Italy, who has been trying to stop the more harsher forms of female exploitation by fighting prostitution, that by fighting prostitution they are actually discriminating against women.

The United Nations Committee that oversees compliance with the UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) pressured Italy Tuesday to halt discrimination against immigrant women. The UN committee felt immigrant women in Italy were unfairly restricted from entering into prostitution.

Aldo Mantovani, Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, presented his country's actions to fight prostitution as a positive development for women in the country. However, as pro-life and pro-family lobbyists have frequently experienced, UN ‘experts’ often have a radically different view of reality that is alien to most humans on the planet.

Why is this discrimination against immigrants? Well, immigrants are less likely to own homes.

You see prostitution is apparently legal in private homes and making it illegal in public places would harm immigrants that don't own private homes.

One U.N. "expert" asked Italy to reconsider their law against prostitution because, as LifeSiteNews put it, "people won’t always do what they are told."

I guess we need to get rid of all laws then. I mean if some people won't obey speed limits or obey the "Thou shall not murder" law then we just need to get rid of the laws.

Roses in Place of Opium.

The Sweet Smell of Success? - I hope so.

AsiaNews.it is running a report titled: Roses instead of poppies to blossom in Afghanistan.

I imagine it's a story you won't find on the big media channels so I thought I'd highlight it here at TGS.

Also, it shows that the UN is capable of doing some good.

Kabul (AsiaNews) – Roses instead of poppies will blossom in Afghanistan, the world’s leading producer of opium. More than a hundred farmers in south-eastern province Ningharhar have in fact decided to give up illegal poppy cultivation and grow roses instead. Rose oil, a key ingredient in perfume, could thus replace opium, this thanks to a project promoted by German NGO Agro Action and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This fall, some 40,000 roses from Bulgaria will be planted in a 10 hectare area. Another 90,000 will be next spring as part of the project. Total cost will be around US$ 100,000.

According to the UNDP, several international investors have already shown significant interest in the project. “This project aims to give Afghan farmers access to high added value international markets. Rose cultivation builds on Afghanistan’s agricultural strengths, and presents a strong opportunity to fulfill a growing niche market,” said Ercan Murat, UNDP’s country director in Afghanistan.

A market study on the feasibility of rose oil production in Afghanistan, conducted by Agro Action and Kabul-based Altai Consulting, found that fragrance products present a potentially lucrative export. It showed that demand for rose oil was high in Europe and the US where buyers are trying to diversify supplies.

I hope they can successfully pull it off because this kind of economic hope for Afghanistan's opium farmers is hope for the rest of the world.

Genocide Continues in Sudan.

When will it stop? - Sam Cage of the AP reports:

The Sudanese army and police have surrounded several refugee camps in the war-torn region of Darfur and denied access to humanitarian groups, the United Nations said Tuesday.

Cage writes that at minimum 160,000 people cannot be gotten to because of the Sudanese army.

That means that humanitarian organizations who have been supplying the refugees with a life sustaining nourishment will not be able to deliver food or medical supplies.

Do you realize that these refugees have had to eat the leaves from trees to survive? Do you realize what the government is doing by keeping supplies from reaching these people?

And the United Nations sits all powerfully powerless.

The Population Implosion.

Population boom goes bust. - Michael Meyer has an interesting article for Newsweek using United Nations data showing that there is, as he titled his piece, a "Birth Dearth."

Just last week the United Nations warned that many of the world's cities are becoming hopelessly overcrowded. Lagos alone will grow from 6.5 million people in 1995 to 16 million by 2015, a miasma of slums and decay where a fifth of all children will die before they are 5. At a conference in London, the U.N. Population Fund weighed in with a similarly bleak report: unless something dramatically changes, the world's 50 poorest countries will triple in size by 2050, to 1.7 billion people.

Yet this is not the full story. To the contrary, in fact. Across the globe, people are having fewer and fewer children. Fertility rates have dropped by half since 1972, from six children per woman to 2.9. And demographers say they're still falling, faster than ever. The world's population will continue to grow—from today's 6.4 billion to around 9 billion in 2050. But after that, it will go sharply into decline. Indeed, a phenomenon that we're destined to learn much more about—depopulation—has already begun in a number of countries. Welcome to the New Demography. It will change everything about our world, from the absolute size and power of nations to global economic growth to the quality of our lives.

A few things that occurred to me as I read this article:

• Same Sex Marriage didn't come up as a factor.
• With China's future declining population will they want to act soon to move militarily on countries like Taiwan?
• With Muslim people and the Middle East being one of the few populations increasing through birth rates across Africa and into Europe, what will the future hold for Muslim states and Terrorism?

An Example of the United Nations Uselessness.

Toothless, frail, old, tigers. - My brother forwarded a Reuters article by Francois Murphy which illustrates the fact that the United Nations is a pointless organization.

Murphy writes:

Iran defied the United Nations on Tuesday by announcing it would go on converting a large amount of raw uranium to prepare it for enrichment, a process that can be used to develop atomic bombs.

Gholamreza Aghazadeh, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, told reporters Iran had begun converting 37 tons of raw "yellowcake" uranium to process it for use in nuclear centrifuges -- the machines that enrich uranium.

The U.N.'s answer to this is to consider more sanctions. To which Aghazadeh basically shrugged and said so what, they've been dealing with U.S. sanctions for twenty five years.

United Nations Population Fund Pushes Abortion and Contraceptives.

Too many humans so kill them. - LifeSiteNews.com is reporting on the UN's annual "State of World Population" report:

The United Nations Population Fund has released its annual 'State of World Population' report. The UNFPA's indomitable thesis is that world population is growing beyond the capacity to produce food and that more contraception and abortion is needed to safeguard women's 'rights' in the developing world. Despite the growing alarm at the dropping birth rate and the greying workforce in most countries, the UNFPA continues to say that 'universal access' to contraception and abortion "is an essential condition for meeting the UN's Millennium Development Goals to reduce global poverty by 2015."

I guess it's easier to promote death than work on democracy and teaching third world countries to feed themselves.
